Developing Your Facial Skin Care Regimen

Remy Jirek

Introduction
Your facial skin care regimen starts with figuring out your skin type. Once you have figured out if you have oily, dry, combination, or normal skin then you can develop a skincare regimen that your body will work well with. Most regimens will include cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. Other treatments may include toning, microdermabrasion, or facial masks. If you are uncertain about which type of skincare program is best, you can see a dermatologist to help you set up your regimen.

The market is full of facial skin care products of all types. How do you know what will be suitable for you and which magic formula will make your skin look the best? If you are a total novice in skin beauty care, you will be totally stumped by the choices you find in the market. There are hundreds of products out there - it would be very difficult to decide what would be the right one for you.

Facial Skin Care Regime will Depend on Your Skin Type

The first thing you should find out is what skin type you have. There are three types of skin - oily skin, dry skin and normal skin. A fourth type is also there, which is a mixture of both oily and dry skin. In this case the skin around the nose and the length of the forehead is oily; more commonly referred to as the T-zone. The rest of the face would be dry in this type of skin type. This mixed type of face is quite difficult to take care of since you have to mix the facial skin care of two types of skin.

Basic facial skin care usually involves cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing. The cleansing is done with a soap-free cleanser which will clean the dirt while the exfoliating will remove the dead cells from the face. Sometimes, the cleanser and exfoliator are both rolled into one. After cleaning the face, a toning lotion is applied which strengthens the skin, followed by a rich moisturizer.

Facial skin care for dry skin would require a lot more moisturizer and night replenishment creams to keep the skin hydrated and supple as dry skin is highly prone to wrinkles because of loss of moisture and oil. Hence, this type of skin will require more care to keep it healthy and youthful.

Oily skin usually leaves the face looking greasy. The facial skin care for this type of skin is different from that of dry skin. Here the emphasis is on removing the oil and letting the skin breathe. Here after the cleansing, an astringent needs to be used which will close the pores and reduce the production of oil. The advantage of this skin type is that because of its oily quality it will not get easily wrinkled.

As age advances, special products pertinent to the type of skin you have would be advisable. However, facial skin care should always be complemented by a healthy diet and plenty of water.
